Smooth Move

Waking up early and getting your day going can be tough, especially if you're feeling extra unmotivated like many of us are during quarantine. Getting your morning going the right way is so important and will set the tone for your entire day. My favourite way to start the day is with a smoothie. With the right balance of protein, carbs, and healthy fats, a smoothie wakes me up and gets me motivated. Below I'm sharing some of my all time favourite smoothie recipes for you to try.

Lately I’ve been trying to find ways to eat more veggies. A green smoothie is a great way to get vegetables in your diet. My favourite green smoothie is an avocado, veggie banana mix. For produce I blend one frozen avocado, one banana and a handful of spinach. I then add a tablespoon of a super greens powder. I use Organic Traditions probiotic super greens powder with Turmeric. In one spoonful of this product there is 5 billion beneficial probiotics for optimal digestive health but I'm not going to lie this stuff tastes kind of gross... So I add a tablespoon of vanilla protein. This gives the smoothie a really rich and sweet flavour (that hides the vegetable taste) while also giving you an excellent source of protein which is perfect for after a workout. I use oat milk to blend with the smoothie but you could use any type of milk, juice or even water.

Another smoothie I love is "Tropical Storm." It's a blend of frozen mango, pineapple, one orange, one banana and a handful of carrots. I then add about a cup oat milk. In the end you'll get a bright orange masterpiece that's so sweet and tasty. You can choose to add protein powder if you wish but you should use a less sweet powder because I find vanilla mixed with this smoothie to be a little bit too strong.

My third favourite smoothie is sort of a random, everything blend. One day I just threw a bunch of what I had in the blender and it actually tasted so good that I wrote it down and had to make it again. In it I put a cup full of mixed berries. I usually use blueberries, raspberries and strawberries. You should put them in the freezer overnight. I also use pomegranate seeds, banana and frozen avocado chunks. I find that the avocado and banana give the smoothie a thicker and richer texture. Now all you have to do is top it off with oat mil, blend and enjoy.

So those are my top three favourite smoothies of all time. Let me know what you think, if you tried them or what your favourite smoothie recipe is. Thanks so much everyone and I'll see you next time.

Stay safe and healthy out there,

-Kathleen
