Just A Small Town Girl
“Creativity is intelligence having fun” -Albert Einstein
Hey there, thanks for viewing my Blog! My name is Kathleen Barr and I’m a Communication student at Ryerson University in Toronto. I grew up on my family farm in the Ottawa Valley located in rural Ontario. This Blog series is a part of my creative portfolio in which I showcase my writing, speaking and design skills.
A Few Fun Facts About Me
I was born and raised on a farm
I work in a cave (I'm a tour guide at the Bonnechere Caves, a tourist attraction in my hometown)
I grow my own pumpkins
I've been in a milk commercial
I met Justin Bieber and Prime Minister Stephen Harper in the same day
A little About Me Professionally
I am working towards a Major in Professional Communication and double minor in Public Relations and Graphic Communication at Ryerson University. Some professional passions I have include graphic design, photoshop, animation, video editing, social media managing and event planning. Through my education and various work and volunteer positions I have obtained extensive knowledge and hands on experience involving communication, public relations and creative design. To my work I always bring innovative thinking, consistent work ethic, determination, communication and public speaking skills.
A little About Me Socially
I love being active. I’ve been a competitive athlete since I was a kid and I grew up loving to run, jump, play hockey, basketball and volleyball. Now in university I’m a jumper for the Ryerson Track and Field team. I compete in triple, long and high jump against other universities in the province. I’m currently training for my first half marathon race and I plan to try out for Ryerson’s cross country team in the fall.
Music has always been a passion of mine. I’ve played the piano since I was a kid and taught myself how to play the guitar. I have always loved singing and performing on stage. In high school I starred in my school's production of grease.
Something that I’m very proud of is that I have competed in and received titles in the Miss Teen Ontario East Pageant and The Miss Teenage Canada Pageant. Through these experiences I discovered a love for communications, public speaking and volunteering which has impacted my personal and professional life for the better. I truly believe I wouldn’t be in Toronto studying Communication and working in creative marketing if it weren’t for my pageant experiences.
Travelling is a huge passion of mine. I love seeing the world and experiencing new places and cultures. Some of my favourite places I've been include Belgium, Ecuador, Barbados, France and The Netherlands. I'm extremely excited to say that I have been accepted to the University of Khalstad and will be attending school in Sweden this upcoming winter.
I value my friends and family more than anything. I’m surrounded with incredible people who I am so lucky to have in my life.
So that's me, although this just scratches the surface I'm happy to share a bit of myself with you. Thanks so much for your time and I hope to see you again soon. I look forward to sharing this journey together.
Stay tuned and stay safe
